E-CIGARETTES AND VAPING: Should the Federal Government Strictly Regulate the E-Cigarette Industry?
E-cigarettes and other vaping products are potentially harmful to public health, and the federal government needs to carefully scrutinize them before they are sold to consumers. The government currently regulates the industry much too lightly, making it too easy for minors to obtain e-cigarettes and for companies to make potentially false claims about the safety of vaping products.
OPPONENTS ARGUE
E-cigarettes and other vaping products offer a groundbreaking way to quit smoking tobacco cigarettes. Stringent regulations would unnecessarily burden the e-cigarette industry and force many companies out of business. Strict federal control of the vaping industry threatens to undercut a product that is likely safer than traditional tobacco cigarettes and would reduce the massive harm smoking inflicts on public health every year.
